We are committed and passionate cyclists (and qualified bike mechanics) who cycle first and foremost for the enjoyment of cycling. For us, cycling is about enjoying a ride with friends … fun and laughter; this is at the centre of our cycling holidays!
We keep our groups small, maximum 6, as we want to get to know you … not just another number in a large group. We offer a range of flexible options from… lots of varied cycling (of course!), option of Carbon road bike hire, free Bedar Cycle Holidays cycle top and water bottle, high-quality luxury boutique accommodation or self catering, fantastic locally sourced seasonal products to create amazing fresh food daily by experienced chefs, airport transfers and time for you to enjoy and explore this beautiful part of the world, which we know you will love as much as we do.
We are not aiming at the elite or training camp level. We set an indicative average pace of 22 – 28 KM/H (13 -18mph), however, this is influenced by route, weather and group capability. Our primary focus is having an enjoyable and fun cycle so the KM/MP/H is not our primary driver. We typically set off from No.1 La Meseta between 8-10 am and aim to return for around 1-3 pm.
We very much look forward to welcoming you on your cycling holiday soon.
Day to Day Example Intenery
Welcome
You are sure to receive a warm welcome by accommodation hosts Katie (No. 1 La Meseta) or Shane and Clare (Castellon Bedar) and be shown to your luxury boutique suite. Your cycle tops and bikes (complete with cycle bag, spare inner tubes, bottles and pedals) will be waiting for you, pre-set to your exact specifications.
You will be visited by your cycle hosts/mechanics, Alan and Lewis, to complete any fine tuning and confirm the plans for the week ahead. Dependent upon arrival time you will have dinner at No.1 La Meseta with your cycle group friends.
La Primera Carrera
First ride of 28 miles with 2400ft of total ascent climbing to familiarise with the area and roads and resolve any minor tweaks to your bike. Your first oportunity to enjoy the stunning smooth roads and descent down from Bedar Pueblo (village) to the beautiful coastal resort of Mojacar and then stop for a coffee and take in stunning mountain and coastal views from the top of Mojacar Pueblo.
This is a modest route with the first half mainly downhill and then the short but challenging climb up to Mojacar Pueblo. Once we’ve had a coffee, we head back up to Bedar and take on the beautiful climb back to the village where we return for homemade cake at No.1 La Meseta!
The Big Sur
The Big Sur, this stunning coastal route is very reminiscent to the Californian coastline of the same name. Mountains one side, wide open ocean on the other with the undulating and quiet road clinging to the coastline and sun shimmering of the sea … in short it is stunning and a pleasure to cycle.
We take a coffee break in the coastal resort of San Juan de le Terreros. For our ‘Love the Climb’ riders they have an extra 17-18km and the climb back to Bedar to look forward to. The’ Enjoy the Ride’ riders wrap up in Mojacar and the short drive to Bedar where we all meet up again for lunch, cake and coffee to reflect on a beautiful day of coastal riding.
Kick back ‘n’ Relax – rest/free day
A free day to do as you please. There is much to do in the village of Bedar. You could book in for a recovery Sports Massage to reward tired legs, take in a jewellery making class, pottery class, afternoon teas, yoga or pilates class or have a day out doing a jeep safari, or take in the many walking routes in and around Bedar.
Alternatively, if you wish to simply chill, and have your own car (or cycle), then you could explore either the coastal resorts of Mojacar, Garrucha, Villaricos and the stunning Cabo de Gata. Or head inland to the mountains and take in stunning mountain drives and visit the beautiful town of Lubrin and beyond. Our accommodation hosts will be able to arrange activities and give recommendations to meet your requirements.
El Serpiente
El Serpiente or ‘The Snake’, this one has the stunning snaking route around the coast. A punchier ride along the southern coastline of Mojacar down to the Cabo de Gata. We head in the opposite direction from Monday taking in the spectacular coastal descent down towards Carboneras, this is a truly stunning road to ride.
We stop off for a coffee in the coastal town of Carboneras before returning to take on the two climbs from Carboneras and then Salpoma, before a fast run in back to Mojacar where the ‘Enjoy The Ride’ riders will wrap up for the day before joining the ‘Love The Climb’ riders back in Bedar for lunch, coffee and of course some home made cake!
El Grande
El Grande or the Big One, the iconic 14km climb of the mighty Alto De Velefique. We have an early start and an approximate 35 minute drive to Tabernas, Europe’s only desert, to take on the Velefique. Its stats are remarkably similar to Alpe de Huez, 14km of climbing, 17 hairpins, average 7.95% gradient (maximum 15%) sitting at 1860m high at the alto, no wonder it has featured in the Vuelta Espana twice. The Love the Climb riders set off around 15km out from the main climb and it is steady climbing from there until you hit the foot of the climb where it begins in earnest to the top.
Our Enjoy The RIde riders will drive up to the foot of the main climb and set off from there. The main climb takes on average between an 1 hr – 2 hours dependent upon individual capability. We will be with you all the way (including support vehicle) and make sure that you get there. We then get to enjoy the awesome descent and fast return to our cars, before heading back to Bedar for a well earned lunch and we finish off in the evening with our group BBQ & some cool beers to celebrate a week of awesome cycling, fantastic food and fun!
